Lecture Demonstration with Mary and Emily King

British Eventing icon and five times Olympian, Mary King, gave a lecture and demonstration along with her daughter – Emily - at Nottingham Trent University’s Brackenhurst Equestrian Centre. The newly refurbished equestrian centre was formally re-launched by Mary and unveiled as the Mary King Arena.

Using Mary’s top horses: Imperial Cavalier and Kings Temptress, and Emily’s Mr Hiho; they demonstrated techniques required to train the event horse – starting with novice through to advanced level.

The lecture demonstration, attended by more than 400 people, was preceded by an Equine Research Showcase where attendees were given a valuable insight into the range of equine research being undertaken at the University. Research staff highlighted the work taking place at the School of Animal, Rural and Environmental Sciences – and introduced attendees to the facilities, technology and equipment – as part of the event at Brackenhurst campus.

Captain Alwyn Varley and his wife Anne – who both taught at the University before their retirement, and are well known in the equestrian world – also officially opened the Varley Yard at the equestrian centre which has been named in recognition of their service to the University.
